Heaven on Earth

Raised as a ‘”Southern Baptist,” I was taught to believe in the church covenant and follow a set of rules that were under the church belief system. Honestly, it’s been so long since I have darkened the door of a church, I couldn’t begin to tell you what they are exactly.

Today, my entire outlook on religion has changed.  I no longer believe in “religion”, as the older I get and the more I read, religion in itself is man made.  Why do I feel this way?  Well for one, Jesus Christ never proclaimed any one religion in the bible.  Two, Jesus Christ never professed to be a Christian.  In fact, he seemed to vehemently scoff at the men who claimed they were Christians. He chose to be where the sinners were and the reason behind this was to introduce them to His Father in a way that would and should be simple for any human to be able to understand.  He wanted us to just love Him and except Him in our hearts.  To Jesus, it was a way of life made so simple.  All we had to do was love Him as He loved us.  Religion has too many rules to follow and if we are all going to heaven that know Him, there isn’t religion.  It’s God’s children (those who believe) and nothing more.  So why are we hell bent on hanging on to religion? Why not come together as one.

This of course may offend some but why? Why should it offend anyone. If you really think about who God is, do you really believe he made up all these different religions?

I bring this up because I’m asked so often, “Where do you go to church?”  I see the shocked look cross their face when I say, “I don’t believe in religion.”  It’s comical in a sense, because the person automatically thinks I don’t believe in God.  Depending on how I feel that day, I might explain what I mean or I might not.

If you ever read the book ” The Shack” you will understand where I’m coming from. The message was clear and while written as a fiction novel, the story was actually true.

I can’t tell you why I got on this today, but I felt with the way our world and our country has come apart at the seams over money, religion and politics, I felt compelled to write about it.

What if the world took religion out of the game? What if all those that believe there is a God and not draw lines in the sand on how to worship just decided to believe and love like He loves us?  Make it that simple..wonder what our world would be like?

I’m thinking it would be Heaven on Earth.
